We recommend a visit to places such as the historic remains of King Arthur’s Castle at Tintagel, the quaint fishing ports of Boscastle, Port Isaac, Clovelly, Padstow and St. Ives, the award winning Eden Project, theme parks such as Crealy and Flambards and impressive coastline views at Land’s End and The Lizard.
For those who enjoy the outdoors, there are breathtaking views and superb walks along coastal paths and over Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor.
Sun, Sea and Sand
Cornwall’s north coast offers some excellent surfing beaches, catering for beginners and more experienced surfers alike. The area around the town of Bude hosts six such beaches, being Sandymouth, Northcott, Crooklets, Summerleaze, Widemouth and Black Rock. Also, the more popular surfing beaches of North Devon, such as Woolacombe, Croyde, Sandymere and Westward Ho! are also within easy reach of Bude.

Widemouth Bay
Widemouth has two large beaches with over two miles of open sand at low tide. These beaches are immensely popular with families due to the large amount of open space. Widemouth also provides a favoured venue for surfers, as the waves can be quite spectacular.
The beaches can be accessed by the South West Way Walkers path. In addition to this beneath the beach the ‘Trans-Atlantic cable hotline’ is buried which links Downing Street to the White House.
Summerleaze
This is the closest beach to Bude town, and it has level access form the car park in closest proximity.
Summerleaze can also be approached via the downs of from the canal at low tide.
When the tide is out there is a huge expanse of fine sand, and at low tide Bude’s famous breakwater, with ‘Tommy’s Pit’ and the landmark of Barrel Rock can be explored.
Crooklets
Crooklets is Bude’s other beach situated in the town, and in the past has been called the ‘Bondi of Britain’ as it was here that the county’s first life saving club was formed in 1953. In addition, Crooklet’s, it has been said, often provides ideal conditions for surfers.
